Returning Modeller

Hi, I’m Nick.

I returned to the hobby about a year ago, for the first time in about 25 years. I had to service my car out near Constellation Drive, needed to kill some time, and stumbled across Constellation Hobbies. Came away with an Airfix Lightning and was hooked!

Since then I’ve bought an airbrush and have been learning to use it, as well as the finishing techniques that lead to a better model overall. It feels like a serious pursuit now, although my seven year old has also picked up modelling recently and the joy of quick assembly and brush painting is still there when I give him a hand.

My interests are primarily 1/72 and 1/48 aircraft, particularly ANZAC subjects. Currently working on an Airfix Shackleton AEW.2, an Airfix Me-262, B-25, Vampire T.11 and F-80C. I like to keep a few on the go to avoid getting fixated.

Looking forward to getting to know the local/online modelling community, and a big thanks to the hosts for setting up this new site.

Cheers!

Hey Nick
Thanks for joining the community here at KM, we've been around for about 17 years now, the site was taken offline about 2 years ago for various reasons and we moved to Facebook. While Facebook is easy to use it's not really a good place for showcasing our work or building a sense of community.
We hope you enjoy your time here, we're open and friendly and suggestions for improvement are always welcome.
Gary

Thanks Gary,

I’ve browsed the Facebook site occasionally, although I don’t have any social media accounts myself. Great to have the forum to connect through, I think it’s a great medium for feedback and longer term WIPs.

Wouldn’t mind joining the GB I think was running for anything that’s appeared on the screen. Reckon I’ve got something in the stash that might work.

Go for it Nick, you can join the GB right up to the day before, just follow the basic rules and you'll be all good.

Hi Nick… Glad to meet you and I look forward to seeing your work and learning more about you. Airbrush is a total game changer… I was kinda intimidated by them until I bought one and discovered it really isn’t that terribly difficult to use, given the right instructions. See you around the forum!

Thanks mate!

Yep I couldn’t go back to brush painting large surfaces- I’ve finally got a level of finish I’m happy with. Discovered Tamiya Acrylics go on so much sweetly with their lacquer thinners. I still enjoy detailing out the little interior parts with a brush though. Looking forward to seeing your work too.

Tamiya is very nice to airbrush, and I still use a lot of it for AB and brush, but I’ve been really into Vallejo for the past few years now…that stuff sprays well right out of the bottle.
