Rommel's Rod, 1/24 scale, Monogram

Well, technically, this is a military vehicle! The Desert Fox's Krazy Kommand Kar, concept by Tom Daniel

 

This was a build I did a decade ago, and it was one of the most absolute fun-filled, crazy models I've ever built. I built it on one of my old forums, and plugged it as my Halloween Build... the idea being to complete it by All Hallow's Eve (which I did). I modified the kit by ditching the roll top roof, which came molded in a fold down configuration and looked very cheap -- so instead, I created a creepier version of it to look more ghoulish, complete with casket handles made from chrome sprue. I also gave it glossy black fenders to class it up a little. and best of all, the two figures (General Rommel and his driver) only came as skeletons with caps/helmet, so I made tattered uniforms out of tape, and gave the General some hoodzie bling chain necklace and commander baton made from sprue.

The kit had a low hung roll up soft roof typical of this era car, but I wanted to make a custom roll up roof that looked funeral homey…

 makers of this kit did an awesome job with the skeletons…they just needed a little dressing up with tattered uniforms and a little bling…

and just because I can;t get enough of this cool kits’ look, some full-body shots...

 

...again on the roll top roof, it was done with styrene armiture, shop towels mixed with white glue for the folded part, and drywall sculpted to form.

 

 

 

 

 

T his was an awesome and fun build. I believe it won an hinorable mention or bronze meday at an IPMS show I exhibited it at... can't rightly recall which.
