Just another Kiwi_Bloke
3 months 1 week ago
Hi Folks,
Just a quick introduction, I am Stewart and really am just a Kiwi_Bloke who likes building models and playing with electronics, although I haven't mixed the two yet!!
I have been concentrating on 1:25 cars, but have a few mostly RNZAF 1:48 scale aircraft including three Skyhawks so you will see me asking for help with those.
Cheers
Stewart

Hey Stewart, welcome to KM (KiwiModeller). I've also got the electronics in modelling bug and have recently got in to Star Trek kits which have lots of options for adding electronics. My current projects are a Cylon Centurion with strobing eyes and a dull on USS Voyager with pretty much everything thrown at it.
I'll post some up here soon.

Welcome aboard! I’m looking forward to seeing your work and learning from you. I’ve not added electronics into kits yet, but I will at some point… I’ve the same Cylon Centurion Gary has will be watching that one closely. …my problem is, I have no experience with electronics, but that’s what make forums like this so important, is the chance to watch, learn, and ask questions. See you around the forum.

Thanks for the welcome Gary,
I haven't started down the Sci fi track yet, mostly lack of budget for the kits I would like to build. Please do share details of that Centurion.

Thank you for the welcome White Rook,
I am looking forward to expanding my skillset here.
Getting started with electronics can seem a little daunting but take it slowly and just like any modelling technique google can be your friend. I am interested to know what kit/scale/size the Centurion is and what you think you would like to add to it? Please send me a link if you can.
Cheers

The Cylon Centurian is a Mobius kit and is just awesome! Not sure what they are selling for today, but I know Amazon has one for $100 USD… I paid the original retail when it came out, so a lot less. I was planning to build it just straight out of the box, until I saw what Gary was doing with the strobing visor light! Undecided on whether I’ll put lights in mine. Here’s an ad for the kit…

Re: Just another Kiwi_Bloke
3 months 1 week agoLooking at that image, its hard to get an idea of the scale and size of the head, how much room is there for LED's, circuitry and a small battery pack? The body doesn't look like it would be easy to run wiring through.I was planning to build it just straight out of the box, until I saw what Gary was doing with the strobing visor light! Undecided on whether I’ll put lights in mine.
I will be following Gays build with interest,
Cheers

This is the space inside the head, not a lot lol.
I went with regular 3mm red LEDs instead of SMD ones purely for light depth.

How are you driving them? Do they sweep back and forwards?
