I found a little flickering LED setup that is intended to be a campfire in train layout etc and installed this under the fire then completed the groundwork.

Vehicles, figures and detail bits were added and it was all finished off.

Must have been horrifying for your neighbor to witness that incident.
When I was younger I worked in a hobby shop, an old chap was in looking around and he saw a model of a P-38.
He told me a story of when he was in the pacific, and a P-38 was landing and was on fire. The pilot jumped out while it was on the ground and moving at speed, but unfortunately the tail collected him and that was the end
