This group build is to commemorate the 75th Anniversary of the Battle of Britain. It will run from 10th of July to 31st of October, 2015, following the dates of the battle.

The build is open to any scale and any subject that played a role in the Battle of Britain. While the Battle of Britain is foremost remembered as an air battle, builds including figures (e.g. famous historical figures from the battle), vehicles and armour (e.g. AA guns) and dioramas (e.g. airfield dioramas) are eligible provided a documented link can be established.

The model must be built entirely within the build dates to qualify, and the build should be accompanied by a thread in the group build forum documenting regular progress. Post your sprues at the beginning of the thread! By the end of the group build (and no later than 24 hours after the completion date) participants should post five pictures of the completed build in the group build forum which will be organised shortly.

To discourage cynical entries the build is open only to those who have been members of KiwiModeller for two months at the start of the group build and with at least thirty posts in the forums. So lurkers, get posting now if you want to enter! I will also vet for cynical or “gaming” entries and vote rigging.

No entry fee will be charged, but this is a good opportunity to make a donation to the upkeep of KiwiModeller.

The winner of the group build will be decided by popular vote. Voting will run for the week following the 1st of November, ending Midday the 8th of November. A deadlock will be decided by a separate run-off vote.

At this stage I'm planning on building it as "Yellow 13" Flown by Lt. Josef Eberle, 9./JG 54

Should be fun

That's a bit of a haul there Andrew. Now I definitely feel like the odd one out not using a resin cockpit for my Emil... Oh well...

Nice looking kit. If I hadn't already got quite a few Hasegawa 109's in the stash, I'd be tempted to grab one of the Eduard's for sure.
And, another 109! Cool bananas... almost enough for a Staffel! :cheer:

I've got the RB belts too. They are very fiddly to make, I got 2 shoulder belts done for me he162 and they took me about 2 hours... DON'T use super glue with them, only use pva or similar (even microclear would work) so that it dries clear and sticks properly...

Very cool Andrew :)
Yes quite a StaffeL of Emils coming together nicely now.... ready for a rewriting of history...? ;)
With so many great planes it would be pretty cool to create an air born formation of fighters and bombers...

Thanks for the input everyone B)

This will be my first 1/32 build of a plane. I have an unfinished 1/48 Me 262 from a previous GB  Prior to that, my last attempt at a plane would've been 10+ years ago The cockpit looks daunting, especially the belts  Why couldn't they make them preassembled :pinch:

Update In Stash:

The RB belts aren't all PE, just the buckles. The seatbelts themselves are actually cut from paper, so once you've handled them a bit the are flexible just like real fabric belt would be...

Great build so far.

I hate the etch belts too and reckon it's worth the time it takes to assemble the likes of the RB fabric products.

Been struggling to get motivated with this build. Every time I look at the resin cockpit set, and the harness set. I just think CBF

So in order to try and get this done before the finish date, I've decided to flag using the cockpit detail set and harness, and will be using kit supplied parts.

I've been preparing cockpit parts ready for a prime coat then some RLM 02

Feeling a bit better now I'm gluing some styrene

I'm keen to sell the Aires cockpit set, and the RB Productions belt to fundraise towards the next GB. Asking $20 for the cockpit set, and $10 for the harness. PM me if you are interested. I'll start a separate post in the buy and sell section, if you want to see pics

Update B)

Been busy the past few days with preparation for my daughters birthday party, so modelling time has been very limited.

Assembled the cockpit parts a little more before painting

I put the upper and lower halves of the wings together. Do you regular plane builders find that one side of the wing goes together better than the other? I did with this

Hoping the weather will be fine enough tomorrow to get a coat of primer on.

Looking good :)

I haven't noticed it too much in the past, with one wing fitting better than the other... Most of the time it will be either both or neither. (only in my experience)

Hope the birthday party goes well :)
The wings on my Weekend edition E3 had fairly biggish gaps each side the same.

Wing thing must have been me  I did notice one of the upper wings seemed to have a lot of fine flash around the edges :S

Update B)

Got some paint on yesterday afternoon. Primed the cockpit and fuselage interior with matt black rattle can before laying down some Vallejo RLM 02 through the airbrush

Primed

In the outdoor bake oven

Dried and ready for the next step

Will see about getting some detail painting tonight, and gluing the relevant cockpit PE pieces, then hopefully seal the fuselage together

Mini update B)

A little detail painting done earlier. Just a few bits in the cockpit. Will be adding the PE tomorrow

Will need to order some paints soon. I think I could be converting from Tamiya to Vallejo

Grant, I raided the cafeteria at my last job before I left for the coffee stirrers
