Ha, bigger pictures at the end. For photobucket reasons, I used to post all my images at 640x480. Now I do them at 1024x768

You've got to love those Fruils the sag adds so much realism to it.

Well there's a thing I've not seen before. A 'Whirlwind' on a 'Drei' chassis. Great project, Andrew.

Coming along very nicely Andrew. It's great to see these old projects finally moving forward. Which kit did you take the turret from BTW?

Before Trumpeter and DML released their 1/35 Ostwind kits, I brought the old CMK Ostwind kit. The hull/chassis was the 70s Tamiya Panzer IV hull. I managed to source a newer tooled Tamiya Wirbelwind to supply the hull. That conversion was abandoned  So I had a spare Wirbelwind turret :woohoo: Dressed it up with RB Models metal barrels

Update time

Right hand track run done. When taking the pic I noticed the radio antenna base, then realised I hadn't seen it in the box  Luckily found a replacement in the spares box. Hopefully the weather will be better in the morning and I can blast a quick coat on it with a rattle can. Hoping to get this to the Future coat stage along with the 251, M1025 and T55A by the weekend B)

Really liking how this is coming together. Quite looking forward to seeing all yours come to the finishing stages... It's impressive how you're able to do them all and still progress quite a bit

Thanks guys. The stink weather lately has put a hold on this. Always seems to be sunny when I can't paint and hosing down when I can

Looking forward to getting this one quite dirty with dry mud around the running gear

Just a question, unsure if you've stated it before... but is the top turret staying that colour? and if so why? More curious than anything!

my guess is, Andrews PzIII, has had a turret replacement in the field and the turret came from the factory in the panzer std red primer.
maybe late war and a severe lack of paint to go around.
a lot of german armor in late 44 and into 45 didnt get fully painted and utilized the primer in their cammo schemes and replacement parts.
i could be wrong and hate to speak for andrew however as this is his build and im just having a guess, no harm no foul.

i wish you all the best in your house hunting to andrew...sux you got to do it all again so soon.

Dave

Update In Stash:
Lots of 1/35 Armor mainly WWII German and a few Modern British/American pieces, 1/32 Aircraft and 1/48 Aircraft. Aircraft chosen to replicate RNZAF and RAAF types through the years. Some RAF & USAF types exist also.

Kind of. Late in the war, there was discussion on whether the Wirbelwind and Ostwind (3.7cm Flak 43) turret could be fitted to the Panzer III. There were supposedly a few Ostwind turrets fitted, but there is a bit of scepticism on whether any Wirbelwind turrets were fitted (The firepower of the 3.7cm Flak 43 was preferred).

Mine is basically a older Panzer (Ausf L 1941/42 production) with its standard turret removed and fitted with the Wirbelwind turret. It was rushed into service, and as Dave mentions, no time to paint the turret, so out the door it went in Red Oxide primer

Started playing with the mud on this. I mixed up several earthy coloured powdered pigments, and have ended up with a shade that to me, looks more like chocolate than mud :pinch: I'll brush this back with a stiff brush, and may add some lighter shades of pigments

Perhaps a wash of Whittakers dark chocolate next, but I'd steer away from white chocolate unless you're going for a winter effect. :)

Looks like a great start Andrew. Keep working away with different shades and it'll come to life.
