Although the aircraft never carried a name, it was known throughout the 599th BS (397th BG) as 'The Big Hairy Bird'. 6B*T was a B-26B-55, the pilot is listed as Lt. Shaeffer in the 397th role, but when the unit was slated to convert on to A-26 Invaders in Spring '45, the airframe was passed to the 387th BG who removed the yellow diagonal stripe and simply applied their yellow & black diagonal bands. No idea who the aircraft was then assigned to then if anyoone.
Other than 'Dee Feater' and 'Flak Bait' I'd guess this was the most famous B-26 flown - almost certainly the most colourful. For years there was debate about the 'actual' colours, still not sure how Airfix have come-up-with a blue iris, doesn't look blue in the photo !!
